Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a meaningful word that serves as a guide for my personal and professional focus. As the Executive Director at Cambridge Senior Living in Springfield, Missouri, the start of a new year always feels like a chance to reset, refocus, and prepare for the challenges and opportunities ahead. This word becomes an anchor, influencing how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on 2024, I am amazed at how much my Word of the Year has shaped my journey.
For 2024, my Word of the Year was embrace. This word guided my decisions, strengthened my relationships, and encouraged my personal growth. I embraced new perspectives, tackled challenges, welcomed new residents, and fostered strong connections with staff. By focusing on this mindset, I deepened bonds within our community, even as we faced significant changes together. Shared challenges often test relationships, but they also provide opportunities to grow stronger.
The mindset of embrace allowed me to practice intentionality and demonstrate the importance of a growth-oriented approach. This year reinforced the value of adaptability and self-reflection, lessons that will continue to guide me in the future.
